Great list. Some of my favorites are #8, 15, 18, 19, 22, 23, 26, 29, 31. I love the idea of making more space for people to connect & learn. I have done some iterations of it with creatives/artists in general, but currently learning how to do that well specifically for filmmakers. Social events and Mastermind small groups (of 5-7 people) have worked the best for creatives/artists. I did a podcast that I think was too general and didn't niche down enough, but a few of us are thinking of starting one specifically for filmmaking outside of Hollywood and seeing how that goes. Wish us luck!
It feels like at this moment, the rich would rather spend their money to buy politicians and supreme court judges to make our lives miserable.
The last great story of a rich person supporting a film is when George Harrison provided the budget for Monty Python's The Life of Brian because he wanted to buy a ticket to see it.
Hi everyone, I will make this short and to the point: I no longer have the time to just talk about these changes to the independent, low budget film industry, I am ready, willing and able to work with all of you that are serious, in doing so. Of course, we will make some false starts, and maybe fall on our faces a few times, but in the long run we will have produced a true golden age of independent productions. I am working on this every day with others in the industry.
I also, feel very strongly about working with philanthropists about changing this industry and the world around us. I actually, like Ted, sat down with one of these individuals and talked back and forth with them, for over half an hour. Like Ted, I wish I had known what to say at the time to grab their interest and make them want to work with me.
But unlike Ted, I will reveal their name, Mark Cuban. I still hope to be able to work with him and others with his abilities and resources in the future. Each of you have a tremendous ability to help make changes in this industry and in the world.
Let's work together, to make those changes. Let's do more than just talk or write about it, let's do it.
Hey First, I have two films out right now, one on Amazon, CASSANDRO, and the other INVISIBLE NATION on the festival circuit. Both aim to better this world and have earned praise and fans. Maybe you weren't referring to me, but we all contribute as best we can however we can, be it making, writing, observing, discussing, or supporting in whatever ways we can. We each have our way and no way is better than another. I am with you in that we need to get things done. Good luck in your efforts. Since you don't have time for this talk, please don't. So far, despite my talk, I've managed to get close to 150 films made and I think they all are capable of speaking for themselves. I hope you surpass that in all aspects, and until then, may peace find you.
I would like to see both "Cassandro" and "Invisible Nation." I will put them on my list. I also have two films in distribution right now. One is on Amazon, "Lee'd The Way" and the other is "Grave Images," which is on Vimeo On Demand. I don't expect to make 150 films. That is an amazing accomplishment. I just want to make as many important films as possible. And as you certainly know film is an art form that is very difficult to make alone, unlike painting or writing a book. I did not mean to put anyone down. I only meant to show where I believe the emphasis should be. I actually would love to talk. Perhaps I spend too much time talking, I do a lot of networking, and perhaps not enough writing and producing.
Should you ever wish to share the name of that Philanthropist you met on the way to Sundance, I'd love to take a swing at inspiring them. Just saying.
Someday I will share my list of 191 Financiers, but not today...
You tease, you!
