Ted - thank you for being such a supporter of new ideas! We're so excited for these filmmakers - thanks for helping to shine a light on these movies :)
I think we have to rethink the whole film festival thing. It is a treadmill for most filmmakers, that eats up their money and unless they get through all the politics and get great reviews and magnificent audience turnout, as well as big awards, it's a waste of time and money. Their film is two years old, and is now dated. And as you pointed out even festival darlings, are not getting distribution. Yes, the studio system, the film festival system and the distribution system, all have to be revamped. We need systems that are not revolving doors or merry go rounds, we need systems that get us movement towards our goals and even elevate our important films to another level of exposure.
Since our studio is starting a new TV Series, which will review low-budget independent films, perhaps we should consider picking some of our titles from the Popcorn List. On alternative weeks we will interview filmmakers. I think another problem that you hinted at is that some sales agents are just collecting as many films as possible and then putting them up on the streaming services with no advertising or support, at all. Some of these films are magical, but because they are all thrown up on the wall to see what sticks, they just fall by the wayside.

We are all going to need an update from all 6 months in!
👏👏👏 I’m sure logistically challenging so hopefully at some point this can evolve into a twice a year list.
You had me at “effective ecosystem partners”!
