Hey, I know Abigail Child! A great person to know to get into experimental film!
I was going to include Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer in my upcoming post about sound design, but I decided to limit myself to 5 like the previous Challenges. I do discuss how sound design can make you feel ill, sometimes thinking it's the image that is doing it, though.
I always remember the sound of the huge boulder flying towards camera in "Raiders." My friend Richard won the Oscar for his special effects sound editing on that film. Fortunately, he was the director of my most recent feature. Now, he has other movies he will be directing. Yes, sound can be the road to directing.
I would love a more technical post on how you approach Performance Rights Organizations to ask for music licensing. Did you ever manage to obtain some rights for free?
There as some musicians that have made their work "free" on a festival-only license. Moby is one whom I think have done that. There are also some that are willing to batch license multiple cues. But should anything anywhere that one has created ever be truly free? I am sure there are good music licensing articles out there. I will let you know if I come across them -- but I know it won't be a fun one for ME to write.

My five were Godard, Voiceover, Score, Source, & Sound Design. Maybe I added a sixth: context.
Thank you Ted! I’ve been meaning to rewatch Run Lola Run. Using farts for sex sounds is oddly ingenious and weird lol.
