"It is really the responsibility and provenance of a government to foster creativity within the community who are native to that region. That’s how we get a diverse set of content on the planet Earth.” -- Evan Shapiro
Welcome to another edition of Links, Ponders & Wonders. This is what caught my eye and I found one way or another somehow related to our mission. Let’s discuss shall we?

What if it was easy to have your film booked in theaters?
You made something awesome. It won festivals. Critics dig it. Audiences love it. But no one bought it. What if there was a way that an exhibitor could choose to run it on their own? We had that happen on INVISIBLE NATION and it was wonderful, but required we knew someone who knew someone who knew someone. It shouldn’t have to work that way.
Know what? Soon it may not have to. Soon there may be a solution. Check this out:
“Filmmakers will be able to upload details and materials of their films directly onto the Attend platform. Exhibitors can search the database, while Attend also recommends films to exhibitors based on the preferences of their individual theatres and audiences. The platform also facilitates the logistics of getting films on screen.
Attend will initially become available in the United States and Australia, with an alpha phase in the United States starting in the first quarter of 2025.”

It is an awesome map, but I want more
Yes, Evan Shapiro has been crowned “Media’s Cartographer”, and rightly so. But back when I was calling for the Map of Our Cinema Ecosystem, I dreamed it even more robustly. Am I greedy? Granted, I don’t want to do the work myself (but happy to consult). Yeah, there’s that — are we willing to do the work needed to bring the world we want into being?
And I love that Evan has gone so far so fast. Perhaps we need some funders to come on in and double down with him. He can take so much farther. Further.
I am sure he has dreams of his own, but the one I see, you can drill down into each territory or across any sector and see who are the players are. I know Evan could build it, but it sure will need a lot of maintenence. How’s that going to work? Employ out of work producers, perhaps? The next gen? Perhaps we need to start a crowd funding campaign for him to build it…?

DADTBATBMOARB, continued.
Like clockwork. You can count on it. It is part of the design. And the effort. If you keep reaching — and please keep reaching — the Dumbass Decision is inevitable. The last decade had several, and I think we can all now agree on another.
