Loss is a time for recognition

I am so grateful for the artists who during my life so far, have pushed both narrative and aesthetics, challenged popular arts, and expanded the boundaries — often in a way that I didn’t know I wanted until they had done it. Bowie and Lynch were of course very high on that list, but when Cole Haddon pointed out David Lynch died a few days before his birthday, he linked them and something else started to be revealed…

Location, location, location.

I have a new thing I am looking for. I am looking for more odes to the locations we shoot films in. It started with Lisa Kholostenko‘s post about diners. And then I stumbled into Jim Field’s fondness for parking lots. If I had my way, thoughtful writers like those would consider all the stock issue places we place our cameras in. Police stations! Schools! Office parks and coffee shops. Give me some well-chosen photos and some emotional insights and you’ll have me hooked. Know of any others you can share?
