the cracks aren’t just where the light gets in, but also where things start to grow

Consider this my first podcast. I hope you don’t mind that I don’t read it myself. I’ll try that sometime later. For now, you should try out the listening tool that Substack offers in the app. Give it all a listen, won’t you?

At the top of the year, I shared a thought. Perhaps it is one you’ve had yourself. All films are political. It was a wee bit too much for a single post. So I broke it up. Yet, I think it reads better in one sitting than four. And now that Substack has this audio setting where a not-so-mechanical voice for give it a read for you as you drive to work, I thought a few of you might like to have it collected in one place.

If you still need them broken up, I have that for you too:

But here’s the full essay, with the original bridges removed for easier consumption. Let’s begin shall we?

ALL FILMS ARE POLITICAL

“Society cannot share a common communication system so long as it is split into warring classes. Thus, for art to be 'unpolitical' means only to ally itself with the 'ruling' group.” — Bertolt Brecht
